Blessed 2009!

From the GENESIS Centre we wish you a blessed 2009! Our hope is that the year to come will be filled with deep purpose and significance. As a member of the global family of Youth With A Mission and University of the Nations we are committed to serve in strengthening relationships, break isolation, facilitate training and opportunities that will impact and transform lives, and continue to do new things in new ways.

Among many events taking place in 2009, we are looking forward to the next great opportunity to gather for the UofN Workshop in September, where four locations will be joined together via GENESIS. This will be an opportunity for many to be involved.

We will also celebrate together with many more One Voice events and hope that an increasing amount of new locations will be able to join for this time of worship and cultural expression. It is our prayer that many new locations will be joined to the global network, feeling included, able to share and receive like around a banqueting table. A year of new opportunities and great potential is indeed ahead!

Denver shares speakers

YWAM Denver has a great diversity of ministry taking place. One of these is the integration of GENESIS. When the DTS in Lausanne requested their speakers they could make these available via the interactive tool. Denver’s leader, Peter Warren taught an inspiring message on Worldview and Evangelism and John Murphy, leader of Denver’s snowboarder’s DTS, shared his passion on the topic of Relationships. Through this the young DTS students in Switzerland were able to receive an impartation from anointed speakers that otherwise would not happen. As the DTS was getting ready to go on outreach the students’ hearts were being filled with truth that transforms, empowered to impact others and bring change where they go.

Am I Available?

‘What do you have in your hands?’ was the question posed to the audience in Lausanne, as Darlene Cunningham passionately shared her message, herself being in Kona, Hawaii. This GENESIS experience made the audience forget about the geographic distance and sit captivated by the inspiring message that was delivered. She challenged the audience to make themselves available to step out when God calls, that we can all do the possible and God will be faithful to do the rest. We need faith while stepping out and also faith to believe that God will do what He has promised. Often we regard our own ability, gifting or skill without value, but as we plant a seed of faith by offering what we have, God is able to do immeasurably more.

This word was very appropriate at a time when the DTS is preparing for outreach where new opportunities will come. Receiving this word from YWAM’s co-founder helps underline the significance of aligning with the Word of God and be available when He calls.

Connecting People

As we travel and visit people in different parts of the world, the need to be connected is prevalent. When there is a feeling of isolation, the sense of being disconnected creates a deep hunger and yearning. This can happen everywhere, caused by a variety of factors. Africa, South America, Europe, North America, Asia and the Pacific, you can find isolated people everywhere. Geography, infrastructure, language, technology, relationships and values are variables that affect our sense of belonging.

Following is an excerpt from a YWAM missionary in Tanzania, expressing the deep satisfaction of feeling connected: “Last Friday our Kilimanjaro base joined the Arusha base for an evening. We sat mesmerized at the feet of Loren Cunningham (YWAM’s founding father), wishing the night would not end as he shared with us stories of his 50 years in missions. His visit was like an oasis and inspiration to all of us, parched for spiritual encouragement and input. At one o’clock I crept satisfied into bed, my soul had been fed.”

Today we see that gaps are being bridged. Within YWAM there is a growing level of connection on many levels. Communication is flowing through multiple channels and people are increasingly being included in these arenas. Relationships are being strengthened by convening together. Mobile communication is increasing, web communication is becoming more strategic and within GENESIS we also see a new wave of initiatives that bring people together. In this time of new opportunities our eyes also need to go to those that continue to feel isolated. As we push the boundaries, someone continues to be on the edge. This is an opportunity to be proactive about breaking isolation and continue innovating to bring our global family together.

GENESIS Forum

In our pursuit of developing new ways to serve a growing community a discussion forum has been set up. There are many questions and topics that can easily be answered through a forum and through the process others also get answers to their own questions. This is a way to multiply the wisdom that exists in the many locations. One purpose is to be prepared for further development of this global family. Anyone can visit the forum, but active participants need to go through the normal way of registering. After all we desire to continue being a community of real people with faces despite the virtual collaboration. We will seek to attain a high community standard when it comes to conduct, with the intent that it can also express the Ways of God in virtual communication. UofN Leadership Meets

When real people are geographicaly dispersed, the opportunity to have technology serve to bring them together is a blessing. The University of the Nations leadership team frequently finds itself in this situation. Leaders that are otherwise highly involved in various places around the world can simply enter into a room that has been set up and connect virtually to bring their entire team together. As they did so at the beginning of December, it offered an opportunity to process important decisions and look ahead together. This also testifies that team unity can exist while members are dispersed. Connecting a global university and it’s leaders across the nations has given many opportunities to see the Word of God released and multiplied. This time Kona and Lausanne were connected.

One Voice!

ONE Voice Event held on 20 November 2008, was a celebration! We linked with 6 different bases: Borgen, Ensenada, Kona, Lausanne, Townsville, and Wiler. Together with all the bases over 20 nations were represented through all the people gathered to worship together! It was a beautiful experience to connect with bases all over the world, praising God simultaneously, in real time, in different locations. Not only were we able to experience different worship styles, languages, and cultures over a video-conferencing network, we were able to feel the Spirit move throughout the various locations!

In addition to worshiping together, we had the opportunity to share what God was saying to us during this time. Darlene Cunningham and Dean Sherman shared words of encouragement to help us press in and continue to pray and wait for the fulfillment of the promises God has given to us.

This ONE Voice event was truly an exciting time of connecting with the body of Christ all over the world. It is amazing how God is using modern technology to bring glory to his name! Praise God! We hope that next time you will be there too!

New Web Portal

Over the last months the GENESIS team has been working hard on giving a new expression to the corporate identity of GENESIS. God has been leading us and brought together a group of gifted people who contributed greatly to the process and end result.

Methods are many, principles are few, goes a saying. So also with web-communication. Remaining true to our core values as well as giving expression to the vision and passion have been keys in the development. Relevance and service are other factors that contribute in the process.

While working with technology our focus is on the content and outcome, that the Word of God is delivered and people impacted to love Him more. Through the new design and features it is our intention to be able to deliver content that expresses this. We will also be launching tools that help us collaborate more and function better as a global community, such as forums, knowledge base and other tools.

Changing communities

Christine Colby is a teacher at with vast experience from many nations around the world, where she has been serving to bring transformation to communities through bringing a biblical worldview to the people. She has worked with refugee camps, poverty-stricken communities, as well as disaster relief, and experience that give great authority to teach on the subject of community development. The students were deeply impacted by the teaching and they were challenged to reflect on their own ideas, the implications on their cultures and how to better live a life reflecting God’s ways. Christine also addressed current issues like human trafficking and the effect of unbiblical worldviews on communities today.

Call2All leader inspires South Africans

While leaders from various spheres of influence in the South African community gathered to seek God’s strategy for bringing change to their nation, one keynote speaker could still be with his family at his home in the US and address the group via GENESIS.

Mark Anderson is the founder of YWAM Campaigns and currently leading Call2All, a worldwide movement calling the church to a renewed, focused collaborative effort to fulfill the Great Commission. A word that would allow the participants to align with the purposes of God in this time was delivered, and the leaders were challenged to respond to the call to disciple their nation. Questions and answers were given in the interactive setting together with a new commitment to see South Africa change.
