Connected Everywhere
The last decade has brought about changes that affect everyone. Technology has in many ways leveled the global playground, where the remotest village now has access to much of the same as the most developed community. Satellite, mobile and wireless technology are today empowering the people of Nepal or Cameroon to do the same as those of Finland or Canada. Many of today’s ‘things’ are physically nonexistent, only represented by bits and bytes, 0s and 1s flashing back and forth across the globe. Ideas, knowledge and information are available anywhere, with an equal opportunity for everyone.
The idea of the Internet was just this, to give everyone an equal opportunity. Today mobile phones and computers give access to the same information everywhere. In places that used to be isolated Internet connectivity is skyrocketing, where some nations have more than 55 000 % increase in users in the last nine years. Sure, that’s easy when you just had a few to start with, but it is an indication of explosive growth. Asia and Africa have seen more than 1 000 % increase since 2000. Now things are again shifting, from slow connections to high-speed connections, giving access to all types of content.
An estimated 60-70% of the world’s population now has a mobile phone, and this year alone it is expected that every seventh human being on earth will get themselves a new mobile device.
Paradigms have changed. Our neighborhood is not what it used to be. Opportunities are unparalleled. These are times for thinking new thoughts in new ways and to let vision open the horizon, creating new things together with the God that created it all. It is harvest time!
