We at the GENESIS Centre wish you the very best in this season of celebrating the birth of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. A turning point in history, He has given us opportunity to continue expressing the love of God through our own humanity. The life of Jesus impacts not just what we do, but also how we do it, as His Spirit brings transformation to the root of our heart and mind. It is this message GENESIS is called to multiply to the nations through technology, just like we have seen it in the centuries before us.

Thank you to all who have partnered with us to serve this King of Kings in seeing His glory increase on earth!

YWAM’s Global Leadership Forum just completed their time of convening in Tijuana, Mexico. Among many things they also commissioned an eldership for the new YWAM Ships expression. The University of the Nations and the ships ministry have a special place in God’s heart and we believe God will open many doors through the synergy between these. Ship equipped ministry will create opportunities where we otherwise would be limited in reaching people and communities with the good news. In this context GENESIS is trusting for opportunities to help connect all these mobile expressions where we can continue connecting communities for training, expertise, encouragement, worship, prayer and much more. We look forward to be on the waves!

Exalting Jesus in One Voice

From California in the west to India in the East, Sweden in the north and Chile in the south, the seventeenth One Voice event saw 17 participating locations join in. With a willing spirit everyone joined in worship and celebration, despite several technical interferences. It is always a remarkable reward to join together with people that have a heart to worship and refuse to be distracted by the limitations of technology. Hundreds of YWAMers all over the world lifted up Jesus as several locations lead out in worship. Towards the end we were also blessed by the sounds of one of the smallest people groups in the world, the Suruwaha from the Brazilian Amazon region. We are again grateful for this opportunity where nations could gather and be inspired together.

Seamless connectivity across many platforms is what every end-user desires, while providers often desire that you stay with their particular product. Today walls are being broken down, allowing a new level of integration between open standards (that GENESIS uses) and widely used proprietary solutions such as Skype. BlueJeans Network offers a solution that will connect h.323 users, Skype, Google Talk and telephone participants to the same meeting.

YWAM Ships in Orange County and YWAM Perth are among locations that have used this and found it very beneficial to serve in training and leadership meetings, strengthening the ministry they do.

GENESIS continues to recommend open standards, such as the ITU h.323 video communications standard, yet fully aware that the real world uses a broad range of solutions that ideally talk together, thus the need for bridging solutions.

GENESIS Seminar in India

At YWAM Indore 16 participants from different YWAM ministries in India were immersed in the reality of GENESIS, from learning about the History, Vision and Concept of GENESIS, the Role of the Coordinator, God’s Ways in Teaching and Learning, Communication and hands on workshops that will equip the participants to integrate GENESIS at a location and open a gateway to the nations.

There is a fresh expression of desire to be connected and collaborate in this nation and we welcome the initiative to train people that will connect GENESIS to many different ministry expressions within India.

One Voice November 10

We have been very encouraged by the response to participate in One Voice on November 10 at 4 pm GMT. There are currently ten locations signed up to join, spanning 12 timezones and representing great diversity.

This time of worship and celebration is a unique opportunity for the YWAM family to join together. There is still space if you want to join, and you can do so whether you plan to contribute or just engage as a community alongside those who lead us.

Revelation 7:9-10 so vibrantly describes the moment when nations, tribes, people and tongues come before the throne of God.

The first full day of the University of the Nations’ International Workshops in Kona, Hawaii, on Sept. 6 focused again on strong biblical foundations to support the spirit of innovation that YWAM’s global university is seeking to cultivate.

The participants, who represent nearly 50 nations, began their workday with a study of the New Testament book of Colossians. International DTS Center leader Maureen Menard began the morning sharing some historical and contextual insights into the life of Paul, the apostle who wrote Colossians.

“He had grown up around the religious leaders of the day who had taken God’s words and reduced them to a religious system, a system which blocked them from seeing Jesus. Because of this, Paul believed that no other people were worthy of God except the Jews. That changed when he met Jesus and scales fell from his eyes.”

She said that as Paul wrote Colossians, he was thinking of the principalities that were over western Turkey, influencing the Church there. Workshop participants were then asked to consider what worldy ways of thinking were in the regions where they live and minister and how they play out as obstacles to our ministry. She said Paul overcame his wrong thinking through a power encounter with Jesus, and may we need to do the same.

U of N International President Markus Steffen then introduced Dr. Tom Bloomer, International Provost of the U of N, who presented a message titled The Heart of the Father to Teach Us.

Tom continued the theme of the Colossians study. He shared that for many who started YWAM, the understanding was that “God has saved us out of sin, drugs, and university” He said that, “When YWAM founder Loren Cunningham came and said YWAM needed to have a university, many of us didn’t like the idea. We can react so strong to the negative spirit in a word like university that we call into it a religious spirit”.

Tom shared about how precious it is in a Father-Son relationship for the Father to be able to teach his son things and for his son to be able to welcome that teaching in his life. He talked about the heart of our heavenly Father to teach his children, being demonstrated all the way back in the Garden of Eden. He shared about how Christianity is a relationship of the heart, though we’ve made it an intellectual thing.

U of N Vice President David Hamilton opened the first afternoon session declaring that “life requires both change and continuity.” He shared that the U of N is in a process of launching a new “certificate” program to give students credit for earlier career or ministry experience.

David noted that spent the largest and most intimate amounts of his teaching time with his 12 disciples. But he also spent significant, though less intimate time teaching the 5,000. “YWAM’s Discipleship Training Schools have been “teaching the 12”, but have not focused as much on the 5,000. The certificates program will focus on teaching the 5,000, those who want to learn about God and his ways but are not in the place in their lives to do a DTS. Certificates will involve shorter not always continuous, and often online learning portions.”

Whereas current programs involve Full Learning Weeks (FLWs), 50-hour residential weeks complete with intercession and one-on-ones, Learning Component Units (LCUs) will not always be residential and can even be done online. While FLWs have been meeting the thousands, LCUs can meet the needs of the millions and this is a central part of our growth as the U of N, Hamilton shared. Markus Steffen then stated that program is coming from the overflow of our passion to teach all nations.

Following the break, David Hamilton, Maureen Menard, Tom Bloomer, and others shared the three core components to U of N courses: teaching related to the Bible, to worldview, and to communication.

“We want people to know God’s word, His world, and how to communicate to them” David stated. Later he shared that “We must shift our thinking to where after DTS, we encourage students to do further courses such as School of Biblical Studies and humanities schools, things that will cement a Biblical worldview and the direction God has called them to.”

The afternoon continued in highlighting how to move into helping students obtain AAs and MAs at the U of N.

The evening session brought presentations from many working around the world in issues of justice, art, film, and cultural transformation of nations.

Costa Rica’s YWAM leader shared his plan for getting Bibles into every household and an offering was taken for this. Film-maker David Cunningham shared his vision for creating Christian film industry here on the Big Island of Hawaii, and YWAM founder Loren Cunningham shared about new innovations in medical, agricultural and linguistic missions.

Loren also shared what God had shown the U of N earlier this year from the Old Testament book of Jeremiah concerning seeking the welfare of the city where we live. He also spoke about the importance of circuits, focusing on bringing the Gospel message of forgiveness as well as food and helps to those right outside our door as well as those at the farthest reaches in the earth.

Shaping the future – equipping for multiplication

The 2011 UofN Workshop is a milestone event shaping the future and preparing us for multiplication. From the 5-11 of September 2011 we are gathering at one of our major campuses with much history and leadership: Kona, Hawaii. The purpose is to discover how to implement the vision in this fresh season with its trends and amazing opportunities. Learning from one another and equipping for multiplication will take place through much interaction and discovering in workshop-style, plenary sessions, working groups as well as celebration and prayer. We will look at major trends, innovation and what God is doing around the world. To equip you towards multiplication and to engage to disciple all nations in our time is the outcome we are looking for. There are many new elements in the UofN which are key for our future. For this reason we are gathering at one place to strengthen our relationships and love for one another, to celebrate and to discover God’s word. Your presence will be very important to create and shape the future of YWAM’s University of the Nations. Thanks for joining us!

One Voice Report

A global worship gathering with about 1000 participants lifting up the name of Jesus, One Voice once again inspired and united young people to give their everything. We could experience how God was weaving together this expression of celebration before Him. Six locations, Pichilemu – Chile, Kona – Hawaii, Ensenada – Mexico, Denver – Colorado, Perth – Australia and Lausanne – Switzerland, joined together including others via live streaming.

Kona blessed everyone with a tremendous expression through spirit-filled and passionate dance. Nation after nation lead out in worship that continually proclaimed who God is and a commitment to follow Him. There was a sense of a fresh consecration to the basics of our faith; following Jesus and living for Him.

This 16th One Voice culminated in a proclamation of what God is doing through His people around the world. As we heard testimonies from Denver, Perth and Lausanne our faith was stirred. People are getting saved, healed, raised from the dead and transformed through the many YWAMers going out to the nations. This again underlined the sense we had, that God is calling us to intimacy and wants to release vision among us. We are called to go to the nations!

Thank you to everyone who participated and for great commitment to see this a reality. One Voice will continue to bring people together from the nations of the earth. More information will come about future events.
